My dad is an african american born in Memphis TN and i was born in mexico, i heard and read that i can get me citizenship by my dad because my dad is a us citizen, and i would be getting a Certificate of US Citizen Born Abroad. I am confused in the way that i don´t know what they will be asking for of documents,or if they get pickie, can someone who has gone to do the samething help out, or someone who knows help. thanks in advance.

there are various things that can make this process easier or more difficult. for example, if your father was married to your mother, the process is fairly simple and straightforward, depending on your age. If your parents weren't married, then it will be much more difficult unless your father has openly recoginized you as his child and has had your birth legitimated in some legal sense. It will be easier if he's still alive, but more difficult if he isn't. rather than asking questions here, you should go to the nearest US consulate or the embassy and talk to the people in the American Citizens Services section. they can walk you through this and tell you exactly what you'll need to present in order to be recognized as a US citizen. |

Your birth certificate listing your father and a copy of his birth certificate to prove that he is a US citizen. |
