british citizenship for ameicans question?

My mom has lived in Holland for 11 years but has dual british/americancitizenship and she was born in liverpool. im 21 and wanting to move to holland but was sugested by mom to get british citizenship. my question is what is the process and how do i get it? can i apply for it while still here in the states or do i have to go there first?all i have now is my passport. and what will the citizenship test consist of if there is one.

Since you're 21 (you're born after 1983 when the 1981 Act came into effect) you're automatically British via descent.

You just apply for a passport. For this you are going to need your full birth certificate, your mom's birth certificate (as she gained her British citizenship via being born in the UK).

Don't worry about the naturalization process/ citizenship test. You don't need to take it. You're a Brit via mom (half English). You just need to formalize it and make it legal.

You can easily do it in the states by contacting the British embassy. Left you a link to it.

Your birth certificate usually only tells you were you are born, parents and their occupations as well as their place of birth (and where they live at the time of your birth). There are some exceptions such as Singapore which will state the nationality of the parents at the time of the child's birth and whether or not the child is a citizen as a result.
