My parents (who are married and both born in australia) were able to live in the UK for about 25 years because my dad held a british passport. That was on account of because his dad was british. they had me over there in 1990(however i was given an australian birth certificate). a couple of years later they moved back to australia. since moving back my dad has not renewed his british passport. so im wondering am i eligible to obtain a british passport? on account of my grandfather was british, my father held a british passport for some years, and the fact that i was born there (even though i was given an australian birth certificate)???

If you were born in Britain, how did you get only an Australian birth certificate? There is, or was, a "Certificate of Registration of Birth Abroad" for Canadians and I imagine Australia would have or have had, something similar. This was issued after a birth certificate from the local authorities. I am sure you would have had a British birth certificate as well issued by the local authorities where you were born. You should check with them directly, if your parents are unable or unwilling to help. If you were born in Britain to a British passport holder, you should be able to apply for and receive a British passport. |
