ibu guru	Since both parents are New Zealand citizens, take baby with birth records and all, baby's passport photos, your proof of NZ citizenship, and go to the NZ consulate. Register the birth to citizens while abroad, and get baby a passport. Then take baby & new passport to Aussie immigration and get baby an Australian visa. Type of visa depends on parents' visa or social visit.

Curious Cat	You gotta be kidding! Why? And why would he need an Australian passport anyway? Surely as Kiwis you are allowed to reside and work in Oz without any restrictions so what good would an Ozzie passport do? Are you guys permanent residents or just visiting? Most countries grant citizenship to babies born there if the parents are resident legal aliens. Doesn't this apply to you? If you really need an Ozzie passport but can't get one now the chances are that your child would be eligible for one in the future. As I understand the OZ citizenship rules assuming that you remain in Oz for the next 18 years your child would be able to claim Oz citizenship on his 18th birthday. Of course you can always apply to be naturalised before that then your child would automatically become an Oz citizen. I assume that you need to travel so the best solution would be to apply for a NZ passport for him.
