How do you get a temporary work visa?

I'm an overseas student studying in Hotel Management in Australia. I want to know if there is any visa which will be granted on completing this course so that I can work full time?
Thank you.

Your options depend on how long you have been studying in Australia.
If you held a 572 or 573 Student visa on 8 February 2010, and after you have studied in Australia for at least 2 years and have graduated, you will be able to apply for a Skilled – Graduate (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 485) under the transitional provisions relating to the introduction of the new Skilled Occupations List (SOL) but only if your nominated occupation is on the 'old' SOL (schedule 2) and only if you apply by 31 December 2012. A 485 visa will enable you to work full time for at least 18 months in which time you will need to find employer sponsorship if you wish to stay any longer in Australia. You will actually be able to work for longer than 18 months as 485 visas take a year or so to be processed and you will be granted a Bridging visa which will enable you to stay in Australia with work rights until a decision is reached on your 485 application.

If you don't qualify for the transitional arrangements (i.e. if you were granted your Student visa after 8 February 2010 and/or if your nominated occupation is not on Schedule 2), the only way you will be able to stay in Australia after you graduate is if you have employer sponsorship for a Temporary Business (Long Stay) - Standard Business Sponsorship (Subclass 457) visa - your occupation must be on the list of occupations eligible for a 457 visa.

You will only ever be able to apply for a permanent visa if you have employer sponsorship for a permanent visa - your occupation is not on the current SOL and is never likely to be on there so you will not be eligible for any other type of visa.

ibu guru is mistaken - that's not how Australian visas work. Ex students can apply for a work visa without leaving the country if they meet the requirements for one - there is in fact a special group of visas that are available only to people who have studied in Australia for at least 2 years. Also, employers never get visas for employees. An employer sponsors an employee, but the visa is applied for by and granted to the employee. |

The answers before is right. Australia like most countries use a system when giving work visas; I forget what its called, but it all depends on the type of industry your in. If theirs a shortage then it will be easier.
I'm not saying its not possible, but it won't be easy.. DON'T work illegally you'll regret it if you get caught, it will make your life harder..
Good Luck |

Student visas are temporary non-immigration class of visa. They are issued on the express condition that you intend to return to your country of citizenship immediately upon completion or termination of studies. If you do not go home, you do risk visa fraud investigation and removal.
You do not apply for employment visas. If you fulfill all of the qualfications for an employment visa, then apply for a job, if an employer hires you, the employer obtains the employment visa. Australia has no shortage of experienced hotel management personnel, so it is unlikely that you would qualify. You could google for Australia's list of occupations eligible for employment visas. |
