I'm a UK citizen, living in the US, when do I qualify for NHS care?

I'm a British Citizen, I just obtained my Green Card in the US and have a USC husband. I've been here since the end of April... I will be going home for a short period of time in December and was wondering if I qualify for NHS healthcare while I'm there? I heard somewhere I had to be 'residing' in the UK again for a certain amount of time before I qualified, can anyone give me a clear answer? Thank you. I'm pregnant, so I'm wondering if I could get a referral for a scan. Just a single scan at the moment... What do I have to do until I qualify?! Pfft! Entitled to free care in the US? I think not! I'm a British Citizen...by birth. I'm living in the US right now, just got my Green Card and I want to be back in the UK. For the moment however I will be spending from about week 12-20 of my pregnancy in the UK visiting my mum and friends, so obviously this coincides with my 12 and 20 week scans... I was just wondering if I was able to get referral for one (I'm still registered with my GP in the UK...though probably shouldn't be) while I'm in the UK, a) to get it out of the way and b) so I could share the occasion with my mum, seen as if I get the scans in the US she obviously won't be there with me... Not quite the same as sending a picture. I've 'contributed' to the system, even when I was out of the country and received my last paycheck from my ex-employer in the UK, which is why it seems ridiculous to me that I can't qualify for even a small amount of 'treatment'... And yes dear, I read the link, but if I go back to the UK and stay there I would qualify instantly...surely...how can you prove you're residing in a country and not just saying you are then leaving after a couple of months? =/ Besides, you ignored the second part of that additional information, asking what I do for care otherwise. Do I have to go privately or do the NHS impose charges of their own? I wonder if it's cheaper than the US.... Blah. I'll find out myself.

Any UK resident who spends more than three months outside the UK loses their entitlement to NHS treatment other than on an emergency basis except for pensioners who meet certain conditions. http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Healthcare/Entitlementsandcharges/OverseasVisitors/Browsable/DH_074383 EDIT: No, you would not be eligible for a scan. Did you not read the above link? Unless you are legally resident again, you are not entitled to receive free NHS treatment as you have spent more than three months outside the UK.

You can receive emergency care at any time If you declare you are back residing in the UK you are good to go

You need to live in UK for 185 continuous days (without leaving UK) to qualify for NHS, once u move back to UK. But then again as far you have NHS card, a short visit to GP would not be a big deal. However if u go for bigger treatment, then your records will be checked. Good luck.
