We have enough thieves, murderers and spongers of the system here already without anymore. These people come here, get the free healthcare, etc, earn loadz money in jobs British people should be made to do whether they want to or not, then send this money home to their families. How is this benefiting our economy? |

I feel that its getting out of hand. The thousands coming from Eastern Europe are indeed coming to work but they are doing jobs which can be done by locals!
To say we have "skills gaps" needing filling is ludicrous, just another way for the Government to justify their failing schools, lack of apprenticeships and employment training, top up fees, lack of Government loans and grants for training and other obstacles they throw in the way of young people or unskilled workers who might like to get themselves qualified and skilled. The Gov. just won't spend the money on it. Then they can whine about "lack of skills" and justify having to ship people in to do jobs which could be done by British people.
This Government does not have our best interests at heart.
I can totally support a system which enables the Government to filter who comes here, to offer residency to highly skilled workers such as doctors, surgeons and so forth, much like the Australian points system. I am TOTALLY against the "free movement" of the EU. All thats happening is that we are being swamped by people from countries where the average wage is £5 a day, who are taking jobs (also child benefit, tax credit), placing stress on our schools and hospital system and lowering standards of living for the British worker!
Needless to say I totally resent those who come here just to claim benefits. In the job which I do I have seen a lot of that, although tbh native people can be just as bad. But I feel that we should deal with our own lazy scroungers before we start importing them as well! |

Not when they're keeping down the minimum wage and cramming 8+ people into rented accomodation for cheap rent cos we end up working longer and longer hours cos we are unable to afford rent etc. |

Uh, they work grueling hours in horrific conditions, for almost no pay.
Yes, they should be welcomed; working here should be legal.
What benefits?
Oh, I guess you listen to the likes of Rush -- people who LIE all the time. |

if they became legal citizens like us i say they are very welcome here! this is the land of opportunity obey the laws, pay your dues we can all get along to make this country a place you can be proud of..no i wouldn't have a problem with that at all |

No -----because past experience tells me that they end up standing on both my bloody feet.
Only those who can show a record of Taxes paid to the UK by their Employment history ,should be eligible. Besides if the Government are tight enough to only Temporarily help, our young University students, and expect payback, then, the same principle should apply to any Foreigner. EU or others .Their Embassies should under take to foot the bill for those Immigrant spongers. If they arrive on Holiday or are tourists then the Period of their stay should be monitored or guaranteed by their declarations in their Visa applications |

If they were here legally, yes. |

I think most people would be more welcoming - not all immigrants are the same and most DO stand on their own two feet. Of course there are the exceptions who don't e.g. asylum seekers but then again the government doesn't allow them to work so it's not really their fault but the governments. If the government gave them the chance to work then perhaps it would be a different story.
Back to your question, yes - if they worked for their own keep then i think most people would be more welcoming but of course you'll always get the bigots and racists. |

Absolutely no concessions for economic immigrants or health tourists. Open door, boot up the jacksy and back to good old shite pile. |

Immigrants are fine. Legal immigrants.
ILLEGAL CRIMINAL ALIEN INVADERS will never stand on their own two feet and need to be deported ASAP.
Then, we can claim our country back. |

Immigrants are welcomed.
Illegal criminal aliens are NOT welcome. Period. |

Not while so many Americans are un-employed or under-employed. |

If they come here to make a better life and plan on working for the things they get then yes, but the problem also come in that America does have limited resources and space and not everyone that wants to live here can. |
|

Mr Sceptic

But most do come here legally, as they are EU citizens.
And recent EU immigrants don't qualify for benefits. |

Yes,should it not be a prerequisite, that anyone coming here, has a job to come to though? |

it actually depends on da situation they are in...so i dunno |

even worse than the immigrants wanting to come here, are the muslims that are already here and want to islamify the country, and are being helped along the way by the pc brigade and the labour government.
We have not got the room, nor the resources to cope with any more immigrants and i will not be welcoming any of them, regardless.
I am amongst the millions of brits who do not want to see our culture changed so significantly that it infact starts to alienate us. Am i so wrong? |

if theya are legal immigrants and can support themselves and speak English then I have no problems with them |
|

No not really. I don't want our culture changed. We have enough problems to sort out with our own people. |

SKYPILOT

No problem what so ever unless they also shut themselves away from our society. It only really seems to upset everyone when immigrants do not intergrate and stay living their old livestyle in a new country. |

No.
The Poles do stand on their own feet...infact less than 2% are on benefits....lets compare that to the 60-something percent of Somali immigrants who are bleeding the system! The Polish work bloody hard for very little money, but I don't want them here because they take jobs from British people and drive down wages for those of us who are employed. |
|

mocook

if they are LEGAL, if not and are not documented as legal workers NO |

I'd welcome immigrants more if they entered the country legally. |
