BACK STORY:
Me and my friend were at highway 9 heading back towards San Jose with a 2006 Mitsubishi Ralliart Lancer. It was raining, a deer popped up at a turn, and he dodged it and lost traction and turned onto the mountain side. The car totaled, both airbags popped, the front bumper popped off, the passenger mirror broke off, the tire and rotors came off. During the accident I was wearing my seat belt and didn't touch the airbag because I was bracing myself. I ended up going to the hospital hours later and have a chest contusion, knee fractures, and bruises all over. My medical bill did not come in and I don't think my medical insurance can cover it. State Farm already called me and I lost all the confirmation number because they called while I was at a party. My friend said not to file anything yet because he wanted to do a $500 dollar deposit for some policy and said I could receive from $25k to $100k.
My question is should I file a claim? Is my friend lying? By the way, we are both 18 and in college.

If you were the passenger in the car, your only source for coverage would be the Auto Medical Payments in the friend's policy, or your own medical insurance. If that $500 "deposit" is his collision deductible, it won't have any effect on that coverage. Call the State Farm adjuster and find out what his coverage limit is on that. |

You could receive $25, 000. to $100,000. but not $25k to $100k since "k" does not represent 1,000. It is a computer amount representing "kilo" and has nothing to do with 1.000. If you want to use a symbol to represent 1,000, consider using the roman numeral "m".
The $500. is most likely his collision deductible. You can file a claim anytime you want and DO NOT have to wait til he pays the deductible. Don't spend any of the money yet because you may not get anything. Merely being in an accident is not a ticket to being handed a large bag of cash. |
