The insurance company does not need to know the color of your vehicle unless you have custom paint that you want covered.
I would recommend you contact your insurance company and apprise them of the color change of your car. If the change in color is a concern, your insurance company will note the change on your policy.
i would report it to both just in case, that way if you got pulled over you wouldnt get in trouble and if you got in an accident or had to file a claim through the insurance you wouldnt have any other problems to deal with.
its a good idea in order to prevent any "misunderstandings" with the authorities if there's an accident or whatever.

If your registration lists the car's color you should notify the DMV of the change. Most states do track a vehicle's color though a few don't.
Your insurance company could care less what color it is, and probably has no record of its color anyway.
