if i make motor claim in the past, do i need to mention it when buying a new insurance?

Hi, my car insurance is expiring soon, so i've started looking for quotes and i realised when i mention the fact that i have made a claim in the last 5 years,,,the premium gets higher. If i dnt mention it, its much cheaper. Is it neccessary to mention it? what happens if i don't mention it?

Insurance companies use a common database "The Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE) are shared databases of insurance claims that help insurers identify non-disclosure, concurrent claims activity and prevent fraud. CUE holds over 15 million household, 13 million motor and 4.7 million personal injury insurance claims. Insurers can use CUE at all stages of the insurance lifecycle, including quotation, policy acceptance, renewal and claim." This is how they would catch you out and then you get another entry on the database that will say you did or attempted insurance fraud which will stop you getting it for years to come. Telling porkies to insurers is never ever a good idea. If they checked in the event of a claim only then you would be rendered uninsured!

different companies have different time limits - most want to know if you have made a claim in the last 3 - 5 years. If you have had a claim and do not tell them then should then have another accident and make a claim they could invalidate your insurance for making a false application. The insurance companies share information from a central database so they certainly can/will find out.

You are required by law to tell your insurance company of any claims you have ,made in the last 5 years. Not disclosing "material facts" as they are called, is classed as fraud. You can go to prison for fraud...

no problem, be sure and lie about everything else too, that way when they check there are multilple lies they can use as a reason to cancel your insurance for being deceptive. All insurance companies have access to a black box of all insurance claims that have been entered into a special network of computers set up by the insurance industry to prevent fraud. Any claim, any thing, any minor little detail involving an insrance company in any way, your name is in there. It is to your advantage to be upright and forthcoming to insurance company, if for some reason your low rate was a misquote or due to a :"mistake"? at least they wont double your rates and stick you good.with a rate hike or excessive billing fee later. Normally after 3 years stuff drops of your record anyhow, and you are good to go.

You can't hide it. The accident claims information is in a database that companies have easy access to. If you lie, they can deny you coverage.
