In terms of traffic enforcement, driving over the speed limit is a ticketable offense. An officer, at his or her discretion is able to give you a warning instead of issuing a ticket. THere are some laws however where the "letter of the law" takes precedence. In these instances, the officer is being completely truthful when he/she says it is out of his hands. |

Protect and serve the good guys.... sometimes the law can't prosecute due to rules of evidence or conflicting stories etc. that doesn't mean you are helpless or shouldn't try to help, Law enforcement is about making the laws work, sometimes the courts are not the answer, an officer on the spot might be able to do something that upholds the ideas behind the law, protecting the victims and making the bad guys go away...eg.sitting in the patrol car outside 3-4 times during their shift or cruising past slowly.
It is not about waiting to catch the drunk driver it is about going into the pub car park and putting them off driving in the first place. |
