There is absolutely nothing that you can do about this really. If his vehicle is road legal (i.e. taxed etc.) then he can park it on any public place. Blocking of your light won't matter and you certainly cannot have it towed away as someone suggested! In fact, unless you own the car, the recovery people wouldn't tow it anyway!
The only thing I can suggest is that you contact your local council explaining your concerns. Request that they paint the area outside your house as 'residents only parking' on the street, or put a few well seen signs up.
If they won't intervene then there's nothing that can be done.
P.S. The note was the right thing to do. Unfortunately he is right but I wouldn't have appreciated the way he spoke to me either! |

keep a diary of when the van is parked there and definitely get the vehichle details. i would still report what he did once you've done that and anything subsequentially.
check your areas laws on the parking - if it is yours, whether vans are allowed etc.
if after going through all the official measures, nothing can be done, ONLY THEN do the nails in tyres things etc. perhaps try getting cheap traffic cones. you can probably order some off the internet. our neighbours kids used to play with them in the street. they can come looking like real traffic cones or in multi colours. place them in that parking spot. i say cheap as they might "disappear". it will either annoy the hell out of him to have to keep getting out the van and moving them before he can park, or he will park elsewhere |

No you weren't wrong to leave a note.
Here's what I would do, see if it's legal for him to park the way he parks. If not the report the van. If he gets enough tickets he'll park someplace else.
Of course you won't do anything illegal like flatten two of his tires, that would get you into trouble. |

If the parking space if owned by you then obviously you can do something about it as the person is on your property.
If it is just general parking then there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. |

yu are right and they have no right to park in front of yu house.yu can complain to the police and ask them to clean the area for yu space and yu also can file case against the person who park in yu house yard area under nuisance to the court. |

Yes, you were wrong! Off-street parking is for anyone and everyone. You dont like it? Work hard and make a million bucks so you can live in a better community and not have to deal with this crap. I worked hard and now I have a nice long driveway to park in and its all for me, myself, and I |

Leaving a nice note may have been the thing to do, but in this case it was not.
When someone knocks on your door and assaults you with profanity, he is guilty of a crime and you should have reported him.
Take down his license number so if something happens in the future you will have something to give the police. |

There is nothing you can do about the van as you have no legal right to light, so you are in the wrong I am afraid. |

You're in the wrong. He is allowed to park there. You do not own the road therefore it is a public place. |

Make sure his van 'accidentally' gets TWO flat tyres. Usually, although a slight inconvenience, one flat tyre can be changed in a few minutes, however, not many vehicles carry two spares, and this would really p1ss him off.
It has to be accidental though. |

Put a large nail under a front tyre -- it won't solve the problem , but it will make you feel a lot less impotent. |

Some councils enforce a "no vans" parking bye-law.
Try environmental health as a first stop for advice.
I can assume it was bigger than a transit to block out light? |

Unfortunately you don't own the road outside your house or have control over who parks there. A polite note sometimes works - but in the case of psychos like this one it doesn't. Just get to park your car there before he does. |

Yes you were wrong. Your note, polite as it was, was inflammatory. I imagine he will try to park outside your house deliberately from now on. You need to think it through next time. |

no....next time he parks there just have it towed......leave a note with the tow truck driver to give him that says "we asked politely" .... |
