Speeding - delay?

My boyfriend was caught speeding. Doing 77 in a 50 zone. He received the notification and sent off his details to them, to accept the penalty but put a note in saying he didn't have his licence number as the DVLA were changing our details (just moved). Since then he's heard nothing, and that was over 3 weeks ago. It was sent recorded delivery and was signed for. Is this normal to hear nothing for so long? He doesn't know whether he has a fine, points, court or anything. P.S this is a UK question

The court that is dealing with his "guilty by post" plea will probably be contacting the DVLA, who in turn aren't the fastest of the agencies to deal with. I wouldn't worry for another couple of weeks, then if he still hasn't heard anything I would contact the clerk of teh court that you sent the details to and get them to check on it. If he was given the option to plea by post he will only have the standard 3 points & £60 fine and possibly £10-£30 court costs. If they just wanted to know driver details there is a chance that because the speed was over a threshold he will be required to go for a court hearing

Don't worry , they won't forget , they are going to make money out of the situation. And anyway his licence number does not change

He will receive a summons to court with a pre-determined court date. It will take longer than 3 weeks, but should be within 6 months. There will be a provision on the rear of the summons for his plea. Your boyfriend will not need to attend court, but should fill in the back of the summons and send it back with his plea. The case will be heard in his absence and he will be informed of the fine and penalty points awarded against him in due course.
