Stopped by the police...?

Last night at about 1.30a.m. I was coming home from my family's house. I was in the right lane as i was going to go straight but changed my mind and checked my mirrors, indicated left as i realised that would be the quickest route. Next minute there's a police car behind me that flashed me to pull over. I asked if there was a problem apparently i was driving 'erratically' (i didn't realise changing lanes in the appropriate manner was erratic) Anyhoo, they checked I had a full driving license, car was insured and taxed and I had never been in trouble with the police before. The woman who checked it told her collegues there was 'nothing' and they said I could go. I was wondering what would they have to report that they stopped me? Because i don't really like the idea of a file with my name on saying 'stopped by the police' because i had done NOTHING wrong. Or would it just go unreported because they checked me out and everything was as it should be?

The stop the officers did on you was just a general stop check. They will have checked your documents and made sure you'd not been drinking. Everything was in order and nothing ws recorded against your name. You have nothing to worry about at all. Don't be put off by the police stopping you. Certainly at that time of night I stop everything on the road, whether they've done anything wrong or not. Criminals travel by car, people drive whilst over the limit, whilst on drugs, without licences and insurance. If we don't stop cars we don't catch those people. The more cars you stop the more chance you have off prosecuting these people and taking their cars off the road.

The police don't have to report they stopped a car for a routine matter it happens thousands of times a day.

There's no file with your name on it. If they checked your car over the radio there's be a note deep in the bowels of the computer system that your car was checked at such and such a time and in such and such a place, but that's nothing to worry about. It's just that your lane change attracted their attention so they thought they'd check that there wasn't a more sinister reason for it than simply changing your mind.

There's no record of the stop on your record. They were checking to see if you were drunk. Perfectly normal. Your record is still clean.

It will not be on file anywhere - it was just a regular traffic stop.

You've nothing to worry about. They would have checked who the owner was with their HQ, seen everything was in order and will leave it at that. Checks are often made in the night time hours as that's when many vehicles are stolen and/or used in other crimes.

People who've had too much to drink or are taking narcotics or even suffering some medical conditions that could affect their driving often suddenly change their minds whilst driving & end up confused & cause accidents. As soon as the cop saw evidence that you'd changed your mind, as it was safe to stop you, she decided to check you out just in case. 1.30 am is prime time for problems of this sort & the roads are usually quiet & maybe the police are a bit bored too, so they'd pull you over even if they wouldn't have done this in the daytime. Obviously you were genuine, but it could easily have been the behaviour of somebody who was not fully in control.

Every driver doesnt know they turn too sharply when changing lanes. But also driving erraticly could also mean you were speeding... so... And also cops can pull you over for anything you want to. Say for example you 2 miles over the speed limit (your speeding) and they will pull you over. But it doesnt go on your record or nothing like that

At 130 am driving erratic changing lanes> Just wanted to check to see if you were DUI and safe to drive> Look at it this way if some 1 was DUI they would of been arrested and might of caused an accident>

they probably mentioned over the radio that they stopped you but it wouldnt be on a file unless you had done something wrong. the police out that early tend to stop people as that is when people are most likely to be drink driving etc. i wouldnt worry about it, they wont have anything on you at all.

there were probably concerned that due to your changing of mind or eratic behaviour that you many have been drink driving. after there checks they realised you were all legal and not had a drink, so nothing to hold you for. i wouldnt worry about it.

KrazyMuddles
lol don't panic they let you go which means nothing happens. I got stopped and breathalysed once...simply because it was 1:00am and I am young so i guess police ASSUME i would be drink driving. I wasn't of course and they let me go :)

No - no report whatsoever, because there was nothing of interest to the police.

cops do that all the time. They lie to stop you and snoop around your car, to see if you're drunk or have drugs or whatever.

I imagine they would just put that they stopped you, but you weren't doing anything wrong, I'm not too sure.
