Every person in jails and prisons made a choice to do something, whatever it was. I never feel sorry for them as they made that choice and they should live with the consequences, whatever they may be.
After working in LE for 5 years I have noticed clearly that the right people are locked up. Those that get arrested and are actually normally good people (like first time DWI's) do not stay in jail long at all.

Some laws (like the ones against marijuana) cause more harm than good and should never have been passed in the first place. |

Tell you what. How about I find one of the dumb laws in your state that you probably don't know about and make sure you get convicted of them.
If a person did violence or stole from another person then I have no problem with them going to prison.
If its for drug law violations or for other things that there shouldn't be a law against then I figure that the law needs to be eliminated.
I figure that the only laws needed are against violence against others and stealing and beyond that there ought to be few to no laws.
Included a site full of dumb laws so you can pick your state and find out what laws you need to turn yourself in for violating. figure if you don't sympathize with those convicted of crimes then when you find your own crimes you should admit and take the punishment you deserve. |

Some people you hear on the train talking to other people on the train talking abut their incarcerations as non-chalantly as most people would talk about a hobby, or the way women talk about their child birth, or anyone taking about a surgery that they had. Whats with that its like they dont feel any shame. |

I think the sympathy comes from the fact that we are all human and make mistakes. No one is perfect, and I know for a fact that EVERYONE on earth has broken at least one law. So maybe the people that feel sorry for the "criminals" know what it feels like to fall from grace. The people dont necessarily not want them to pay for their crimes, they just feel sorry for the journey that they know the gulity is about to go on. and maybe the feel that sharing a prison cell with someone that has murdered 17 people and rapes fellow prisoners for fun, is just a little bit more punishment than someone who does a lesser crime, such as stealing cars. |

It never feel good to see another punish. Even when my sister did wrong it still hurt when they were punish. I don't rejoice when another person is punish although I might be happy that some justice was served on behalf of the victim but I still fell bad.
We don't live in the time when people celebrate and party because someone was hanged or put to death. we are supposed to be better then that. |

I used to think like you until I have seen the difference in justice being blind and the system being corrupt. When you see black males are more likely to get longer jail terms than whites. When the poor get get more time for stealing a small amount of money and the Ceo of a company that steals money and hurts the employees only gets a short time and a fine .
I also used to think that people had the choice to be criminals, but if you have to feed your family sometimes you have to do what ever to survive. |

People feel sorry for the people that have been put in jail because, it depends how long they're in there. Like some people haven't been to jail and they might get an idea it's a torturing place that some people can't handle the food they eat, and the way they live, and work. So mainly people feel sorry for the people that are in jail because they probably don't know what it feels like and get different idea's. Or either people been to jail and got out and knows how that person might feel right now. Unless the person was accidently caught and wasn't meant to be in jail, then I likely suspect people feeling sorry for them. |

because sometimes the punishment doesn't fit the crime.
Those are the instances in which some people sympathize with the offender.
For example, drug use... simple possession and usage WITHOUT intent to sell. In my opinion this is more of a sickness than a wrong doing. Furthermore, whatever substance you put in your own body is your own business and not that of mommy government.
These people who use drugs and are NOT committing violent crimes or theft or any other crimes asides from strictly using the drugs, don't deserve to be locked up with rapists, arsonists, murderers, and other violent people. |

Going to jail for smoking weed?
Smoking weed is dumb, but locking a person up for it is dumber. |

I don't feel sorry for someone who goes to jail...I am sorry that they did what they did to be there in the first place. My greatest sympathies go to the victims, of course, always. |

Some people don't, like me.
I think they should rot, if they did indeed commit the crime.
But some people have this condition called "being retarded" that makes them do stupid things
these things includes certain things, like sorrow for criminals. |
