can a judge keep u from being legal until Your 21?

my friends are 19 and 17 and there mom was into drugs really bad and the judge gave them to there grand parents and said they wasn't legal until they was 21. and the one who is 19 ran a way and the judge said if he dose it again than he would be sent to jell? what should they do to get out of this BS? they live in mississippi by the way.

christina c	a judge can pretty much do as he/ she wants when it comes down to sentencing to get a message across to someone. there is really no way out unless the judge changes his/her mind. i'm noe sure where the judge was coming from though if it was the mother who had the drugs and was using them and not her children. there has to be more to this than what you know or what you are stating here. no insult intended. i do know from what a niece told me that the legal system in Mississippi can really be screwed up on sentencing and handling drug problems. that is why she moved back to my state.

JB	If a person who is a juvenile becomes involved with the juvenile court system, then yes the judge can prevent them from being considered adults until the age of 21. Sounds like this is what happened. Now, why did the one run away? If it was due to physical abuse, then they need to run to the police and file a complaint. If it was because they did not like the rules and regulations placed on them by the grandparents, then there is nothing they can do until 21 years of age.
