college policing?

fr_chuck	Yes, they still cover up thier crimes figure, First although they are "sworn" officers they still report to the college admin, just like city police report to the city counsel. For example if the football player would lets say steal his car out of the impound lot of the parking department. In the (real world) he would be arrested and go to trial, but then hire big name attorneys In the world of the college, the foot ball coach calls the dean, who calls the police chief at home, who calls the shift supervisor and before the football player drives to the football field, the officers are told to disregard the call, that all the parking fees, all the fines are all paid in full. Or they have an exact line where they call "on campus" and where they call off campus , this is normally anyone on the city streets driving though the campus which is not campus property is off, anything not on speicic school property is called off campus, so when they report the number of crimes on campus, the crimes appear very low, but the over all amuont of arrests are much larger. Or when campus police wait all day in the student dorm when campus maintance found alot of drugs ( enough for selling and alot of drug items) in the real world again the regular police would have had thier photos in the paper for a large drug burst, in the college world the officers are told not remain silent about the burst, no paper work is ever done, three of of four students that did this are expelled and one is suspended a week. All are back in school next semester. But a large donation from thier parents seem to happen we understood. so actually a private security company that was contracted and did not actually answer to the school would have better reports, since they would be required to call city police not campus police for actual crimes

Old Fuzz	That is a common problem with college police departments. Since on campus crime could spook potential students, colleges are reluctant to even keep statistics much less publish them. However, don't blame the campus cops. The decision to suppress or down play crime stats is made by the college presidents and boards. I remember one college that had a clever ploy for reporting crime. They set up a policy that their campus officers only handled traffic accidents and thefts. Any violent crime like assaults, rapes, etc. were to be handled by the city police. So, when a parent wanted to see crime stats, the college only showed the property crimes handled by the campus cops. More savvy parents checked the city crime reports, and there were the assaults, rapes, etc.

your mom	Here in MD, most of the colleges have their own police force. They also have a student campus security group to aid the officers. The few colleges who don't have their own police force are smaller and can't afford them. It's not cheap to have your own police force. Therefore, they hire private security because it's cheaper.

Driller Killer	Crime statistics on a college campus need to be kept low. If date rape is a common occurrence at a certain college, what parent would let their daughter attend? A security force would be able to keep statistics under wraps unlike a sworn police force, whose statistics are public record.
