My friend and I tried to use her sister's passport to get her into a club and the bouncer took it. Do you think there's a chance her sister will get something in the mail about it?

It's my understanding in Aus that security do have the right to confiscate any forged or fake ID under the pretence they are handing it to the police.
I would personally be more worried about the calibre of the bouncer, did he report it to authorities? maybe. Did he keep it for himself? maybe.
Fess up to the sister, report it yourself after you have contacted the club manager to see if can be recovered all else fails, report to police yourself. If the bouncer didn't call the police as soon as he realised it was fake then I doubt the police could pursue proving it was you or that it was stolen. A passport in the wrong hands is not good at all. |

I do not know the law on this, however, it seems to me that the club has no right whatsoever to confiscate either a passport or a driver license! In this case, a passport is a federal document!
Also, I do not know how a legal document wrongly used by a minor can or might not result in a criminal violation!
It may be that the club will try to return the passport to its rightful owner. OR... maybe they will turn it over to the police as evidence in an illegal use of a government identification document.
So, first of all, I agree with Johnny Lemonhead, perhaps it MIGHT be returned in the mail? Maybe the club will ask the owner to come pick it up so it can be identified as going to the proper person who is entitled to use the passport? Perhaps it will be kept for a while until the managers or owners can decide what to do with it?
Either way, that was REALLY STUPID to mis-use a form of identification to try to get someone into a club illegally, which I am sure is what you two intended and tried to do. DO YOU REALIZE THAT ADMITTING YOUR FRIEND INTO THAT CLUB COULD GET THAT CLUB SHUT DOWN AND OUT OF BUSINESS??????????????
Think of the employees you might get fired or even put in jail or fined thousands of dollars if you had gotten away with it and an undercover policeman noticed you and apprehended you?????? What would your parents think and do?????? You DO have PARENTS who taught you decency, don't you ???????

Possibly, but I would also have her call and speak with the manager of the club and explain the situation. They might have it held in the office there. On a side note, that was a terrible idea on a few levels. Truly terrible. Don't ever mess with a person's passport. |
