Can I claim bankruptcy for a surety breach that the courts are making me pay ($25,000)?

I was surety for someone and signed $25,000. The person breached and the courts are making me pay all. Will I be allowed to file bankruptcy in order to cover this?

SoCal Attorney	I'm a bankruptcy attorney in California. You haven't provide any facts that would lead me to believe that you couldn't receive a discharge of this debt. The most common reason for a denial of a discharge of a particular debt is fraud, but this rarely happens. The decision to file bankruptcy should only be made after a detailed consultation with a qualified attorney. And just because a particular debt might be dischargeable doesn't mean that you necessarily qualify for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
