I know that there is no copywrite to the actually music of Beethovan. However, if I use someone elses recording of say "ode to joy" in my homemade movie, I can get in trouble. My question is, how can they find out that that is THEIR recording (the owners). Because all of the records of "ode to joy" sound exactly alike. Except for maybe tempo. So how can you get caught? What if you just alter the musics tempo and volume with a program and then put it, so it's unrecognizable. I just dont get how someone can get caught.

man290663@btinternet.com	The copyright on the WRITTEN music for any Beethoven or similar composer is expired.. however each time someone performs the music they then get another 99 year copyright on the PERFROMANCE. so unless the performance recording is over 100 Years old (unlikley) it still has copyright and you will be breaking the law for both unlawful sharing of music and unlawful broadcast of the music. you can get programs that take the written music and computer generate it and that would be legal as you then own the performance as you won the computer that created it!

Legend in your own mind!	How many people do you really expect to see your homemade movie? Even if it's millions the owner of the recording has to know too for you to get in any sort of trouble. But that said, if millions do see it and you make millions yourself then you owe them a cut anyway so what's the problem? If only ten people see it nobody gives a crap. It's like asking if nobody ever finds out how can you get in trouble for murder?...duh.
