Do courts still make people swear on the Bible?
Find answers to your legal question.

Do courts still make people swear on the Bible?

If No, what do they swear to? If Yes, what if you don't believe in God? Wouldn't it be offensive to make you swear on a Bible? Also, do they still include that part "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth "so help you God"?

I have watched a few court sessions (primarily in Washington State) and never saw anyone sworn in with a hand on the Bible. They also do not use "so help me God."

Depends on the state. In my state, the traditional oath is still administered, but anyone who doesn't want to swear can choose to affirm instead. There are no Bibles anywhere to be found in the courtroom.

you just raise your hand and say i swear... no court in the US forces anyone to swear on a Bible and if they aren't swearing on the Bible, then they don't say "so help you God"

Yes to all. And this country was founded on the belief of Jesus Christ. If you dont believe in God I guess that means you dont have to tell the truth.

I believe that quote is still said.. And we swear to one bible

Mopar Muscle Gal
yes you have to swear in on a bible and they say...... etc so help you God

You can "affirm" to tell the truth. Same consequences of swearing on the bible, but they stop short of "so help you God"?

Is 'in god we trust' still on our money? Yes...so deal with it.
