How much notice to give your boss for a 1 week vacation?

I want to take either next week or the week after off but i don't want to give to short a notice. I was wondering if there is a standard in ontario of how much notice to give. I heard somewhere that you should give as much notice as your planning to take so in my case it would only be one week. not sure if this is a good thumb rule but i was hoping to get some incite. thanks in advance.

I usually give a three week notice, but it would depend on the policy of the place you work for. I would talk to my boss as soon as possible if I need the vacation next week or the week after.

Typically it would be best to give as much notice as possible (at least a month would be good) so your boss can make arrangements to cover the work you do while you are out. But, this is all on a company to company basis. Talk to your boss about it. He may be fine with a short notice, or he may deny you the week off. It shouldn't hurt to at least ask.

up to your company most require at least one months notice some require more some less go ask your boss expect a no on both accounts

That would come under company policy. My company requests 3 weeks notice but will sometimes waive it. Talk to your manager.
