In the state of TEXAS, is it illegal for a 17 year old to move out of their parents house?

Laws are different everywhere, and I was wondering if I am allowed to move out of my parents house at 17 in the state of Texas. My parents and I are just always arguing and yelling and it's really getting in the way of my life - friends, even school. I would live at my best friends house until the end of this school year, when I'll be 18 and graduated from high school. I just want to make SURE that my parents can't call the cops and report me as a runaway and make me come home, because that would just perpetuate the arguing. If you can give me a link to the specific Texas laws it would be awesome, I know they're online somewhere, I just can't find them.

I doubt there is a specific law that says "it is illegal for..." but more that you're not a legal adult until you are 18 and at that time can enter contracts, etc. Since you ARE a minor moving out without parental consent IS running away, and YES they can drag you home. If you can prove certain things you may be able to file with the courts for emancipation but fighting with your parents (totally normal for a 17 year-old) is not likely grounds for emancipation. If your parents are willing to let you live with your friend they can do a temporary guardianship or even a power of attorney for the friend's parents to take you to the doctor, etc but since they're still legally responsible for you they may not like that idea so much. Graduation is just a few months away... hang tight!

in the state of Texas you can quit school at 15 you are an adult at 17 can't buy alcohol until 21. yes you can move but you will get a bunch of hassles.you have to be 17 (an adult to see an R rated movie). goto findlaw.com or call your local justice of the peace. i hope this helps.

You have to be at least 18 (an adult) to move out legally.
