I have a close relative who was adopted, she was given up by her parents in ecuador and therefore was adopted by one of my family members. Here is the problem, we are both the same age, now in our late 20s however ever since I've known her she has been forced to do "chores" yet these so called chores such as cleaning, babysitting have not only deprived her of a LIFE but i remember that when we were in school she wouldn't even go to school because of these chores. I know its too late to notify child protective services for the maltreatment but now she cant even go to college! and she is so brain washed that she doesn't understand that it is wrong. I feel terrible because neither I or any other family member has done nothing to stop it but I want to get her out of there. Is there any place or anything that can help me help her now that she is an adult and help her go to school. She has never had a job, she would basically be starting from zero. The reason why I want to help now is because for the first time since Ive known her she has finally admitted that she is verbally abused which has psychologically scarred her, and that she wants help. Spring semester has recently began and like I said she is not in school because she cannot pay for school but she cant file for financial aid because she has never worked and never did taxes, I feel like I just hit a wall and I want to help but I don't know how.

Three is nothing wrong with chores! It is an essential part pf raising a child.
Unless you are saying she never went to school, can not read and write, do basic math there is nothing for you to be up in arms about.
I do not all ow my children to work either. School, family and chores, yes, those mean evil chores. |

It is not slavery, because she is free to leave any time she wants. It's not even unpaid sevitude, because she receives food, clothing, medical care, and a roof over her head.
Your story doesn't ring true anyway. If she could not even go to school as a child, she certainly cannot go to college now. You are obviously exaggerating the situation greatly.
If she was eligible to go to college, she has to pay. There is financial aid, not working is not a factor in that.
The truth is that she is too meek to stand up for her rights as an adult. Those rights include the right to pay for your own room and board. She can move out tomorrow and get a real job if she truly wants out. But it's easier to blame her parents and stay at home. |
