Maternity rights in the UK?

I'm sorry this might be a little complex. I'm currently 26w3d pregnant and was let go from my job at 17 weeks. I was working for a charitable organization on a 26 week contract with the chance of a permanent job at the end if we made the grade. At the end of week 25 we were all taken into a room and told that they were unable to secure funding after all and we could all leave immediately and would be paid until the end of week 26. I didn't really question it at the time. I tried to find work as I hate being jobless but unsurprisingly was not successful. So I began to look into what would happen later on benefits wise in my pregnancy. It was then I learned that having been let go a week early, I didn't qualify for maternity allowance, only income support. Obviously with income support being half what maternity allowance is I was understandably put out. Now a former colleague of mine is suggesting that it wasn't only the benefits i qualified for at 26 weeks employment but maternity rights too such as full maternity leave etc. It was also suggested that this was the reason for their failure to get funding. Could this be true? Thanks in advance. I want to know if you have to be working with a company for a certain amount of time before you actually qualify for maternity rights as well as benefits. I'm not looking for a judgment on my financial or living situation at all. I want to know if what this person has said could be true, that I was let go because of my pregnancy and the other two were just collateral damage. Trust me, it may be a charity but it was a very corrupt place. There's no actual evidence that they did try to secure funding for jobs and the fact that we'd all been replaced 2 weeks later is very fishy in my eyes.

No problem, really. Your husband may just need to get a second job for awhile.

You don't have any room to sue as they let everyone go.
