My employer will not excuse my absence from work, even if I have a Dr's Note!!!?

Just having a doctor's note isn't enough for my employer, they want the reason why I went to they Doctor wrote on the Dr.'s note. Isn't that a violation of my Privacy/Hippa. They will not excuse my absence if it is not.

I honestly would think that you'd have to tell them, and if they fired you over it then you could come back on them, but then if that be the case, I wouldn't want to work for a company that did that to you.. But I am like the rest here, I don't believe of the Hippa laws now adays you have to legally tell them whats wrong.. you could tell them that its personal, between you and your medical doctors? GOOD LUCK either way..

It really depends on your state labor laws. You can research them on-line. In my state for example they can't fire you for missing work with a valid excuse(as listed in the state laws), however they don't have to pay you. If you wish to be paid you have to complete their procedures. Hippa laws protect you from the doctors and insurance companies not your employer.

An employer has a right to know why you are missing work and to make the judgment if it is a valid reason. Your secretiveness just enhances their suspicion that your absence was not warranted. Hippa only comes into play if your Doctor releases private information to an unauthorized person. You have the right to release your own private medical data to anyone you wish.

The reason is none of their business -- tell them it's personal. If any trouble, contact the Dept of Labor

Where the heck do you work? Damn right that's a violation. Tell them to get bent and accept the note, before you take action. They can ask, but they cannot REQUIRE you to divulge the information.

It's not a violation if you tell them but the Doctor can't tell them w/o your consent.
