I was selling a necklace on gumtree for £300 i received an e-mail from an interested buyer. He agreed he would pay £400 for shipping etc. I received an e-mail from paypal telling me my id number and that paypal had recieved the buyers payment. However, I e-mailed paypal to ask when my money would be in. They had no recollection of any payment. The e-mail that was sent was a fraud e-mail set up to look exactly like the paypal e-mails. By this stage I had already sent the packet. I sent it on the 21st. I went to the post office to see if they could send it back to me but they said they couldn't I also rang royal mail customer service, they said the same thing. There is nothing they can do for me. HELP PLEASE! what is the best way to go about this. I looked up the address on google and it is a blinds company in south africa, not a house.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done. Paypal says you should not send anything until you have verified the money is actually in your account as emails can easily be spoofed. And once the mail leaves your post office, you can't get it back
You can report it to Action Fraud, but unfortunately as the package was sent to South Africa where UK police have no jurisdiction they can't really help you

Your mistakes have been pointed out already.
Get a couple of BIG, MEAN friends to go with you to the address where you sent the necklace. Stake out the location and ASK for your item when it arrives.
If you can't do that, consider it an expensive lesson learned. |

Paypal specifically TELLS you that you need to go to your account to verify a payment. Your first clue was that they were willing to pay EXTRA. If its too good to be true, it probably IS.
At this stage, your necklace s gone, and you have no way to get it back. |

The police are the only people who can help you and chances are it's too late.
For future reference: never go by an email notification. Always log into your paypal account and view the transactions to check if money has been paid or not. |
