On facebook I made a statement about disliking the "asinine" courts and judge it was take by my ex wife and shown to the judges to prove contempt, could that affect me? Or were my rights violated by her taking it from fb?

Facebook is considered a public place. Anything you post for anyone else to see is considered public information. It is legally no different than writing on a public bulletin board at work. Only in the event that she somehow hacked in to the personal parts of your account to get this information would there be any sort of violation. |

You have no privacy rights online. You posted it, it can be used against you.
However, such a comment is NOT contempt of court. Contempt of court only exist WITHIN the courtroom, or in violation of a specific court order. Unless you have a court order barring you from comments online, it is not contempt.
How it colors the judge's attitude depends on the judge. Some would flip out and throw the proverbial book at you. Some would ignore it completely as irrelevant to the case. Some would actually hold it against your WIFE for attempting to influence them.
It was still a dumb thing to do. So is giving your ex access to your Facebook. |
