What does it mean to be 'tried as an adult'?

Depending on the severity of the crime, and your age and previous criminal activites, you could be tried as an adult. If you are under the age of eighteen, they will probably keep you in juvy until then, and transfer you to the BIG HOUSE to serve the rest of your sentence. They just can't slap a 14 year old in with a bunch of grown men!

You are tried in the full court system rather than juvenile, as was said, and a key point is that you take full responsibility for your actions rather than the system acknowledging that your immaturity may detract from your personal accountability and external influences may have influenced you, further eliminating your personal responsibility.

Means that it will stay on your permanent record, and you will be treated as if an adult committed the crime and not a child. Much harder on a person.

It means that a case will be tried in the ordinary court system, not juvenile court. The punishment, fines, etc. will not take into consideration that the perpetrator may be under age, and as such the punishment is likely to be much harsher and much more extensive.
