You get done for theft!.there are dozens of builders merchants and do it yourself outlets to get sand.

I don't know what the charge would be today, but in the 18th Century you would probably be sentenced to death for stealing from the king (all coastal land is owned by the crown). I don't think a trip to the Tower of London would follow a visit to the sand dunes these days, but there are still over 3,000 laws on the statute book dating back to the days of the Normans, so you never know. Be careful where you take your bucket and spade!

if you have a DIY store like b and q near you, you can buy sand from them or direct from any builders merchant. I'm not in ireland, but you could try the b and q website http://www.diy.com see if they can delivery the quantity you need. if the sand is for a kids play pit then beach sand is NOT good. you can get specially washed sand specific for the JOB. if for a building project you need to know what type or grade sand you need to do the job properly and to a professional finsih. legally the beaches in the UK are normally PUBLIC property so anyone can take a shoe full home with out any problem. It should be stressed though that taking sand from any beach can sp[eed up the rate of coastal errosion on that beach. so if you get caught you may get a hefty fine or jail time. and bags of sand are not terribly expensive. i've not looked at prices recently but when i used to work for a store who sold bags of sand it was less than £10 for 25 KG. A builders merchant will normally be able to deliver bulk purchases. so you can order in person and get your good delivered. google or other search for builders merchants and or DIY stores in your area. Oh and some garden centres sell sand as sand is often used to improve the drainage in soil, so gardeners dig sand in to the flower beds and pots. good luck. sorry i can't be more help!

My uncle has purchased bags of cleaned sand like for toy boxes at lumber yards and home improvement centers--forget the internet---shipping would cost too much--------try a home center.

The dreaded sand police are every where, why not move to the desert. When Moses couldn't go to the mountain, the mountain came to him. Or you could pray for the desert to come to you. Let me know it works out.

I don't know any internet sites, but a local garden center, landscaping firm or even the highway department should be able to direct you to a safe legal source.

Well, in the USA there are HUGE fines for it. $1000 minimum fine at many beaches in FL, for example. As for sand, go to a pet store. Most carry bags of it for hermit crabs and the like.
