What legal responsibility does a parent have for an 18 year old child in Ohio?

My stepdaughter moved in with my husband and I back in March of 2007. Legal custody was given to him a couple months ago. Her mother died and since he had just found out that she was his child, he gave custody of her to the sister to give us all a chance to get to know each other. That was all back in 2001 but she just chose to live with us. (To make a long story short) She will now be turning 18 on 11/2/2007. Up until a few weeks ago, we got along pretty well. She thinks when she turns 18, she can make her own decisions, which from what we hear, is moving in with her boyfriend, that will also be 18 on 11/14/2007, mother's house. Are we legally responsible for her until she graduates from high school or when she turns 18? Can we tell her no or let her make her own choices? I have read that we are legally responsible for her until she graduates but since that is not until May 2008, we want to know what are legal rights as parents are. Thank you so much for any answers.

quite basically, none. once they're 18, they're adults.

From what I understand of the laws of the state of Ohio (I was born and raised there), an 18-year-old is an adult in the eyes of the law, regardless of whether or not she has graduated from high school yet. The only thing she can't legally do is drink (though she can get sent to a war and get killed... go figure). If she chooses to move in with her boyfriend, and he is also 18, there isn't much you can do about it. I wish you luck.
