any one know how to get out of a judgement?

I had bought a truck from a car lot, and after a month I lost my business, I told him I couldn't afford it and he said bring it back and he'll take care of it. he messed up on ebay and let the truck go for $250. and now has a judgement against me for $2500. he has even threatened my wife and kids although there are no witnesses to that, so its become a matter of principle that I do not pay him a cent. Even the judge was upset she had to rule in his favor, and hoped I would find a way out of it.

If this individual holds a judgment against you after having gone to trial, there is very, very little you can do. The only way to successfully get out of paying the judgment is to have no money. Even then, sometimes a creditor can attach the bank account of someone holding money for you. There is one way to have no money and quash the judgment so that the creditor cannot come after you again - bankruptcy. If this is important enough to you, talk to a lawyer about filing for bankruptcy.

The laws and procedures for court vary by state. If you have money judgment against you, then obviously you lost. You might be able to appeal or file a motion to vacate the judgment if you are still within the time limits established by the laws of your state. Otherwise, you can negotiate a payment schedule, file bankruptcy or try to hide your assets.

what type of judgement was it? Small claims? I have heard it can be nearly impossible for people to collect small claims judgements. Find out if he leaned anything on you.

It could cost you more money to fight it(attorney fees) than winning. Unfortunately, these turn into "Lesson Learned" situations. See what a lawyer can do for you, a phone call is free.
