Employer asking paid wages back?

Hi , Can anyone suggest me what should I do with this problem. I was working in USA and came to canada for a month vacation. During my vacation I decided not to go back to US. So I informed my employer stating my intention to live in Canada and not coming back to USA. I haven't got any response till end of my vacation for that email so after finishing my vacation I started filling time sheet(because I am a permanent employee, so didn't want to make myself absent in the company). I was in touch with the employer everyday during this time to know what they decided but they ignored me and didn't respond to my call. So I thought I was available for them and I was permanent employee so I need to fill in the time sheet. After few days from there employer called me over the phone and told me to work from Canada remotely. So I started working from Canada for more than 6 months and after that I decided to resign from the Company. They were not happy with my decision and they said I didn't work for certain period after my vacation and they need that salary paid back to give final cheque. I told my employer that 'I wanted to resign from the company soon after the vacation but you didn't reply to my email so being permanent employee I filled in time sheet'. Employer not accepting this and they are asking me to pay back whatever they paid to me 6 months ago. What should I do in this case? do I need to pay this money back or do I need to get with Department of Labour? Please advise...

I'm a bit confused at the part where you filled out time sheets after your vacation and made yourself available. Every place I know of that pays someone a salary doesn't do so to make yourself available. They pay you a salary to actually work. Assuming that all your timecards are legitimate, I would think the law is on your side. The fact you resigned is irrelevant at this point as they did not accept your resignation and actually continued to pay you.

Uhhhhh? You falsified time sheets and got paid for work you did not perform and you think you can keep that money????? WRONG.
