Yelling? Not acceptable. Being a 'boss' doesn't give her the right to yell at anyone, regardless of what they're doing.
Same thing goes for confronting in front of customers and fellow workers. Not professional.
I'd tell that 'boss' very nicely, but calmly the next time she either yelled at me, or confronted me in front of others, that "when she's ready to talk to me in a civil, professional way, in her office, with her door closed, and NOT in front of an audience, I'll listen." I'd immediately walk away, and document, including her full name, title, date, dept., incident, her words, and manner of speaking.
No one likes being embarassed in front of others, whether right or wrong, and she wouldn't like it if it were done to her.
Suggest to your friends that they always look busy - don't give that dysfunctional any reason to "show her authority."

This is not harassment, this is the boss, who has a job, and that job is to make sure people like your friend do their job correctly. If there was nothing to get upset about your friend would have no problems.
It sounds like this job is too complicated for your friend and your friend needs a job that is more simple to do. |
