We dont normally do anything much, dining out on overpriced food in a packed restaurant isnt exactly romantic. Besides my husbands birthday falls the following day. This year it will be exchanging cards purely for the children's benefit as that's where our marriage stands at the moment.
Hopefully things will have settled down a bit for you by then. |

Wow, husband is in a mental hospital and you are spending your day and Yahoo Answers. You are something else. My wife would be spending her time talking to family, the hospital, the VA, a counselor, crying....
But I'm quite sure this isn't how she would be spending her day. |

We don't make too big a deal out of it. Last year we bought each other gifts and went out to dinner. But it was our first Vday together. This year I think we'll just go out to dinner and come home for some "alone time".
Give your husband a card, Rachel. It might mean a lot to him.
Add - I think Rachel has some haters following her around. Who would give all the TD's to people giving nice answers to a nice question? |

Valentine's Day is totally for the female. If my wife didn't care, I wouldn't pay it any more attention than I do Arbor Day or Groundhog Day. |

No, it's not a huge deal. My birthday is just a couple days before Valentine's Day so that's more of an occasion. My husband buys me some awful chocolates and flowers and a card, I don't get him anything for Valentine's Day because he gets March 14th, which is national Steak and BJ day. |

First we get the kids to Grandma's house. We do the cards thing, and we cook together.
We usually buy a new toy for ourselves and spend the afternoon trying it out.
It's great fun. |

We don't make it a big extravagant event. Usually it's a card, dinner and lovins. This year I actually went all out(she deploys in May for 12 months so I kind of want to make it a little nicer this year?. |

We usually plan to eat dinner out, but we try to go early to avoid the crowds. We have a bottle of something (champagne or wine) in the fridge at home to toast to "love". Just mostly try to spend some time together reflecting on our relationship. (He proposed to me on Valentine's Day 2008). We also exchange cards, but not any expensive gifts. This year I have a couple of romantic CD's to give to "us" since we've started listening to music in the bedroom. |

Valentine's Day is a contrived holiday where people who have ignored each other all year pretend they make it all up on one day.
Folks who are in a healthy relationship already do everything they need to do during the year which includes random compliments, gifts, etc.
Anyone making a big deal about their partner's behaviour on Valentine's Day is shouting "YOU DON'T LOVE ME ENOUGH!" and is rampantly insecure and destined for unhappiness. |

Why don't you spend it with your husband in the mental hospital, they do allow visitors don't they.
I'm getting my wife a facial this year. |

Not really. We usually get a baby sitter, have dinner together (either home-made or at a restaurant), drink wine, have a bath together and do it...
Dinner with yoru parents? I'm sure they'll LOVE that...nothing like a third wheel ruining the mood on v-day. |

DO NOT CRASH YOUR PARENTS V-DAY, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? YOU CAN DO SOMETHING LIKE DINNER, A MOVIE, IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A HUGE THING..BUT I REPEAT, DO NOT CRASH YOUR PARENTS V-DY!!! |

It's a big day to us bc it's my daughters birthday *(lucky girl and poor guy one day)so we devote the day to her. At the end of the night we'll have a bottle of white and something small to eat and take a moment for us but with kids and especially one with a b-day it's not a big deal, never was even before her birth. |

It's just another day for us. We have date night every Friday night so going out isn't a big deal to us. I'd rather not deal with the crowds and stay home with him, a good movie and a nice warm fire in the fireplace. |

Actually I get all hot & bothered when I sink my teeth into a juicy flame-broiled whopper.
You know, most people chose Burger King's whopper over the Big Mac. |
