Is it possible for a father to get custody of his children in a divorce in today's world?

J-Ski22	Many states claim fathers and mothers have the same rights, but it always seems that the default is mother unless something is wrong with her... Unfair, but reality.

Tara	Yes, it is possible. It happens a lot. It may be hard if she is a great mom & person .. and wants her kids, too.

John Munny	its easier today than ever b4 womans liberation has come back on the women who thought it was such a good idea. in todays world you can get your kids get child support for those kids and even spousal support.

msnice34	i would think so it seems as if thing s are a little more equal than they wereyears ago. usually fathers are granted custody based on the mothers' fitness as a parent.

Chocolate	the only way is if the mom was Britney Spears, lol. Honestly, yea, you would have to prove some kind of abuse or drugs on the mother's end. If you can't get full custody, get visistation rights. That's better than nothing. If you have a new girlfriend or wife, then you have a better chance of getting them because you have a home that's more stable to provide to your kids.

Avia Moore	There has to be some serious evidence against the mother in order for the father to get custody these days. But I mean it's for good reason. Common knowledge is that the mother is the caretaker, father is the hunter gatherer, so parenting generally SHOULD come naturally to mothers. Therefore, society tries to keep the kids with their moms. However, if the dad is a lot wealthier and fights just hard enough, he can usually squeeze in some joint custody. Very rarely do the kids get awarded to him solely though... especially if there's a daughter involved. And one of the last things the court wants to do is to break up the siblings.

Sandy B	yup....just prove that the mother is unfit to be a mother.....buy a recorder and record her every move.....but really are you doing this out of anger or is she really that bad of a mother? if she is that bad and careless then she will prolly give you the kids as long as there are not strings attatched ( that means money or visititation)....chances are she is a mom that cares and you have to prove she has poor ways and it seems the only way is to record and photograph her in un-motherly acts.....) i know it sounds bad but thats the only chance a man has nowadays..........hope this helps

crazybones	I think its absolutely possible. Just as long as your the better provider. Also if she cheated and that's why your getting a divorce it might make it easier, but if you just can't get along with her and that's why your getting a divorce then your chances are much slimmer

Rebecca C	yes my dad did. its tough though, the mother has to be proven an unfit mother and the children depending how old they are have to agree. it is kind of a long process especially if the mother wants custody as well

rob	i got custody of my daughter, but the mother signed over custody. if she wants custody you are in for a battle. in order for you to get full custody they have to prove that your ex is an unfit mother. that's pretty hard to do unless she is on drugs and uses them around your kid, is abusive, or negligent.

mezwood	Yeah man...it is for sure. The kids go to the parent who has the most stable life most of the time. If you have a long term job and home and the mother doesn't then you are the best parent in the court's eyes.

Ray D	Sure if you can provide a better home. More judges are coming out of the stone ages and giving good dads custody. It also helps to have some dirt on the ex...

Zgirl.	actually my ex step dad has custody of my half brother and half twin sisters. so actually they can. just show how bad their mother is. and get a real good lawyer and a shitty judge. and dont do things to make yourself bad. thats how my ex step dad got custody of them.but he is a bad man anyway. I'M NOT ON A DIET!!!	yes. there are a lot of stay-at-home-dad's nowadays and usually, they are the ones to get custody of the children if the mother works and he is the one who takes cares of them most of the time.
