My wife kept her maiden name.
There were several reasons for this. First, she had already published research under it, and wanted some continuity. Second, she didn't want to cause confusion with her green card application. Finally, in her home country surnames are appended to according to gender (for instance Zdeno Chara's wife would be named Charova). My name doesn't lend itself to this. |

Technically, I just added his on the end, so I have four names.
I do go by the shortened version, my first name and his last name. |

I'm not married yet but I will definitely take my husbands name. I think this is a nice tradition and it doesn't mean you have to lose your own identity. I think making a name double barrel is cool too. I wouldn't want to keep my maiden name though as I think part and parcel of getting married is that your fiance is offering to give you his name in marriage - why would you not want to accept what he offers. I think it's beautiful although I understand why some overly feminist people may want to keep their name and I also understand why some people keep their family name in respect out of a dead loved one. |

I have been married twice, the first time I hyphenated it, the second I took his last name. In time I realized the only reason I didn't take his last name was cause I knew it wouldn't work out....I feel I was wrong for marrying him to begin with... and delayed mailing in the m.l. till I decided what I wanted my last name to be. |

Well to answer your main question, yes you do take his last name. Also, you have a right to change your last name to anything, and therefore can hyphenate it. |

i happily took my husbands last name it made me feel like i was a bigger part to him then just a female friend ... i love him so much .. |

I took my husband's lastname and dropped my maide name all together. I didn't want my maiden name as my middle name, the way I see it...if anything happens (God forbid!) to us, I'll just change it back if it's that big of a deal. |

I took his last name. I had no problem doing that and I look at it as honoring him. Since my father is the only male in his family, if he wouldnt have had my brother, i might have thought about it differently so I can continue on my daddy's name.... but yes, i did take my husband's name. |

My aunt decided to hyphenate her name since she's a well-known orthodontist in the area and didn't want people to get confused. |
