Why be faithful in marriage?

Sandy Ego	I can't come up with an objective reason. People's social behavior is shaped by the expectations of the society. In our society, the perception of being faithful seems to be important, although the reality is that a lot of people stray.

vanhammer	Why get married if you're going to cheat. The best option is to stay single and be free. Marriage is a commitment between 2 people and I really don't get why people get married when they really aren't happy with their partner in all areas. If you want something different in a person, look for a person with those qualities before saying the vows.

g	Why show kindness to others if they're inherently mean? Answer: You look hard enough and you'll find the type of perosn you're looking for. Your statistics are off, but that does leave 10% according to your numbers. That "10%" is out there some where. Keep the faith.

ermy	since cheaters lie how accurate are those #'s everytime my partner has cheated i knew .why be with anyone then ? with that mindset you will be jelous and or aone for ever.

queenb10282002	I know this stemmed from my question but I have to disagree with your statistics. Show me some facts! Just b/c the wife cheat does that make it right for the man to cheat? Just b/c the man cheat does it make it right for the wife to cheat? NOOOO! Its still morally WRONG! If people just cheat anyway why would there be a such thing as marriage? A union between 2 people! You should find someone who will not cheat on you. There are people out their who hasn't cheated and have no plans on doing so. Then their are people who would get a divorce than to cheat and i think thats the way to go. Some people have a tendency of wanting to be with someone b/c they can't have them and thats where I say cheating comes in at. They either forced the peron to marry them or they are just genuinely not happy. There is nothing wrong with being unhappy but their is something wrong with cheating on someone. Who you claim to love unconditionally? Who is probably the parent of your kids? Who has nursed you back to health when no one else was around? Who probably would lay down their life for you? Who probably pray for you more than themselves? I have a HUGE problem with people who cheat for no reason on a good person!

Mrs. G	Where did your stats come from? My husband is raising children that are not his, but not because I cheated on him. My former husband passed away and I remarried. Are you certain that the stats you have are indicative of infidelity in marriage?

Edit...While I could take the time to research your statistics, it would be much more simple for you to make your statement and then provide a link to support your claims. By that same token people would take your statement more seriously and less as one of an extremist point of view.

jdgothtech	Women are going to argue this, but these are true, had a class and we discussed this. There is a issue on statistics though, they can only be guidelines and in no way represent the truth. So although there are a lot of women that cheat, and there is a very good chance that it is 90%, it all depends on what group you are talking about, some groups of women may be 100% faithful.

redheaded_gardener	Your really not paying attention to the facts. Not all women cheat, out of my 10 closest frinds I know that 2 have cheated, until they found the right man and then they were faithful. That is 20%. I personally would never cheat, if I am that un happy I will leave first, it goes completely against my morals and standards to have an adulterous relationship. You need to find another kind of woman.
