Why would my new boyfriend be a virgin at 34 years old?

I am recently divorced and I started dating a guy about two months ago. We seemed to really hit it off and had a lot in common. However, I noticed he seemed to be a little shy or awkward and he didn't even try to kiss me until the 5th time he went out. Anyway, he eventually told me he is a virgin and had never been in a relationship before. He is 34 years old so I had a hard time believing it. When I pressed him why this is, he said he has always been too busy to date and just had other things to do. Part of me wants to believe him because I think it is noble, but part of me just can't accept his reasons. He is pretty good looking, a successful lawyer, owns his own home on a lake, and pretty funny and interesting. I just don't know why he would still be a virgin. What should I do?

Perry	Yeah, it's horrible that he wanted to have his life together and own a home while in his early 30's, with a solid career. I expect that he has a good solid Christian background, which is rare now. Good for him. I'm sad for you though. Why are you putting him through the ringer for being a good man? vonniecs	There's nothing wrong with virgins OR being a weird Catholic who won't do it until they're married (to quote another poster). Only thing is, why no relationships at all to this point? Is he quite immature? One day if you want to marry him, you probably don't want to be the only woman he's ever dated - then he could look back and wonder what he missed (and so would you if you were in his shoes).

He's probably shy -- maybe was a geek in school, or maybe had bad acne and never really socialized all that well. Some of these guys grow up to make decent boyfriends and husbands, although they tend to be a little bit socially retarded...they are still trainable.

Barbara Q	Being a virgin at age 34 is a legitimate possibility for some (religious types, etc.) However, not having had any relationship prior to this age is bizarre. I think he is not the man for you....you don't need a project, especially after a divorce. No one is "too busy" to date if they genuinely want a relationship. If he is not trying to kiss you there is a problem with him or his feelings towards you, and dating a man who won't kiss you is going to zap your self-esteem and make you second guess yourself. If you like this man and care about it, tell him you want to be just friends.
