How much debt ?

If it does not affect our relationship, maybe.

But I do not want to feel like I am " paying " for my partners bad choices.

Gambling debt ?? I would run for the hills !

Yes! When you love someone enough to marry them, debt shouldn't be a reason to not go through with it.

Yes, no matter how much debt. If it were extreme, then I would sit down with them and opt for a discounted settlement to pay it off(or structured payment plan) or look at filing for BK. I would then use my credit repair process to clean them up. Next, I would have a thorough discussion about keeping within their means and fiscal responsibility so it would not occur in the future. It's a shame how so many part ways because of not understanding how to deal with monetary issues. Life has ups and downs - deal with it. Don't run like a coward.
