how do i keep the peace living with my geeky boyfriend?

I moved in with my partner of 4 years about 4 months ago, now his toy soldiers (warhammer, warhammer 40K, battlefleet gothic, etc. etc.) seem to be invading the kitchen. He's a bit untidy in general, but that's ok because i'm only slightly less untidy so we both put up with each other for that. The only thing which gets on my nerves is the toy soldiers which have been spotted venturing into the kitchen and the coffee table. I have seen places he has lived before and i don't want to live in a sea of toys, i've seen places he's lived in before (a colledge room and a room in a share house) and i don't want our house to turn into that. When we planned to move in together i said his toys needed to stay in his territory and not invade the whole apartment. We got a 2 bedroom place which was maybe a little extravagant but we decided we needed some of our own space. We have the master bedroom where we sleep and keep all our cloths and linnen. I have my desk with my sewing etc. in an enclave of the open-plan living area, and i have a hall-way cupboard for my non-cloths stuff. He gets the second bedroom with his very large desk and the built in wardrobe. There's some other stuff in his room, like a spare bed which is usually used for if i have a friend over and they've had a couple of drinks so can't drive home. Being near the bathroom/laundry his room also often has the clothes horse with the washing on it in there, and we tend to just wear it straight off the cloths horse not take it down and put it away. How do i keep the invading armies at bay without becomming a nag? and while we're at it, how do i get him to do the dishes more frequently, also without being an annoying nag.

Okay, sorta tricky, huh? I'd talk him about it. Just mention that the room is ment for him. Do you entertain a lot? Ask him just to spend 10mins picking up his things. If all else fails you may just have to do it yourself if it's one or two things. Get a small basket and put the collection back in his room. Just ask him to pick things up and take them to the hobby room or whatever while you're picking up the house. As for dishes...ask if he could help you dry/wash. Ask if he could help you put them away while you wash/dry. OR ask him if he could help you out and do the dishes while you sort laundry or clean other stuff. Also, if you see him cleaning you can ask if he needs anything. If he doesn't have this habit in him to ask if you need help drop small hints..."I love you. I want to help you out." If anything ever builds up be sure to talk to him directly. "Hey, I'm having a bad/hard day can you help me w/ the dishes or can you help me do whatever." Or "hey, I feel like I need more help around the house.". Good luck!

Pick the soldiers up and put them in his room. Keep doing it long enough and he'll eventually catch on. As for the dishes, all you can do is ask. Try to get him to join you. One can wash and the other can dry. That way neither of you will feel like it's being dumped on you.
