Jesus implemented the institution of marriage, and if you follow his teachings, to live together without marriage is a sin. By law if you live together long enough, you will be common law spouses anyways. So you might as well.

lostinlove	If you are religious then yes marriage is necessary. But the way things are going now a days I would say no marriage is not necessary. If you have been in a relationship for a long time and things are fine leave it that way. Marriage has a way of breaking up relationships.

XxAngelWisexX	Necessary for what? In general, no, it's not. I made the choice to get married because, for me, it was more final and special than just living with my boyfriend. I like being a "Mrs." and recognized as a man's wife. Whereas my aunt has been with her boyfriend off and on for about 10 years, they live together and have a son who is almost five years old. They would be considered married in every aspect except a legal one. They have no plans of getting married either.
