my daughter is married to a drunk?

don't get me wrong he is a nice guy when sober,but that's not often,all i want is my girl to be happy.what do i do,talk to him and persuade him to disappear or let her keep being hurt by him.he wont get help and denies he has a problem. he smokes weed as well.but its booze that causes the problems. emma thats pretty much what i thought but id sooner her hate me than keep being hurt by him. he denies having a problem.his mother,step ather and brother are all drunks. i really want to have words with him. he wont touch her he knows the first sign of violence and that will be his last.

Ms. Intrigued	I fear if you try to interfere it will back fire. Your daughter must love him and will feel the need to defend why she chooses to be in this relationship if questioned. Until she reaches the point when enough is enough or until he is ready to admit he's got a problem, both will not thank you for any advice or help. This must be so tough for you to stand by and watch but when a person is in a situation, it's hard to see that there is a problem and until a person does, this is when they start to make the necessary changes and reach out for family support. all the best.

blondie	i agree with Emma G...just offer advice and be there for her. make sure he isn't abusing her and just wait for her to figure out when she has had enough. it will happen eventually...

Robin	If he is interested in getting sober have him go to: smartrecovery.org It is not religion based like AA.

Emma G	This is a very tough situation. Unfortunately all you can do is give your advise to your daughter and son-in-law. You will have to be careful because if you start telling your daughter to leave him, or telling her husband to go and she finds out. It could put a strain on your relationship and push her further away. I think all you can do is give your advise and keep an eye on him. If he starts verbally/physically abusing her then you have every right to step in and she should see that you are doing it for her welfare. Believe me she will know when she has had enough and can't take anymore - she will leave him then and only then. I'm sorry if this is something you didn't want to hear.

smith	Yes this can get bad..I would try to talk him into getting help.if not your daughter needs to get away from him.

Douggie B	Get him high, and hope he trades one for the other I guess. I suppose try to get him help then, I dont reccommend AA because they will impose Jesus on him and it just makes things confusing...
