Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It's just a test they use to see how smart/stupid you are so they can assign you a military "job" that would fit your abilities. It's kind of like the SAT's except that it's a little easier.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery
A series of mini tests in a variety of categories that measure your abilities in verbal, qualitative, mechanical, speed and accuracy, and other areas of intelligence and aptitude. It helps the military determine what types of career fields you would be best suited for.
EDIT: It's often given at high schools to help guidance counselors provide mentoring to students who don't know what they want to do after high school, as well. You can take it as early as your sophomore year, but recruiters will not contact you about your test until you are a Junior AND at least 17 years old.
The practice test at the below link will give you an idea of what the ASVAB test is like.
