Can i join the US Coast Guard if im irish?

I was wondering if i could join the US coast guard if im irish, i dont mind moving to america and living there. I dont wanna join the irish coast guard because its a voluntery job. Thanks!

Gerry Atrix	If you do you will have to pay your own fare home when you get leave. Oh and weekend leave home will be far too expensive.

Enforcer of Oblivion	i think the Army has been the only service to allow non us citizens to join but thats when they need people at this is not one of those times. You need to become a U.S. citizen if you want to serve in us military.also, the CG is very picky on who they enlist because they are the smallest branch (about 1/10 the size of Army)so you have no chance of getting in with CG if your not a citizen

egotist61	If you moved and became a citizen I would believe you could do it. You could also however join the New York Police Department as other Irish have done. ( Sorry could not help myself for the comment)

T J	Sure, we even let the English join the military here ;-) All you need to do is jump through the hoops necessary to become a legal resident of the US.

AD	You could but you would have to have a green card first. You can't just move here and join.

Mrsjvb	only Legal Permanent Residents may enlist. the military and CG cannot and will not help you emigrate or get your Green Card.
