Canadian Navy Diver information?

knh959	Within the navy there are basically two different categories of diver. There's "ship's diver". A ship's diver can be from any seagoing trade. Candidates apply for a ship's diver course which is conducted either in Esquimalt or Halifax. The course is several weeks long and candidates undergo rigorous physical training, including daily runs, swims and general PT. They learn a number of different skills associated with military scuba diving such as how to conduct hull searches (looking for mines on the hulls of ships). The other category is Clearance Diver. A Clearance Diver is a trade in and of itself. Generally one doesn't join the navy and go directly into the Clearance Diver trade, but rather re-musters to that trade after a number of years in the navy. Usually Clearance Diver intake comes from candidates who have already qualified as ship's divers. The first link below will give you a pretty good overview of the Clearance Diver trade. Jim B	All ways go to the source fro the correct information. In this case a Canadian Forces recruiting office ( look in your local phone book " blue pages " for "Government of Canada " CF recruiting. " CALL them and make an appointment to speak in person to a navy recruiter. They will tell you how to get to be a diver . Remember that it is one of THE MOST physically demanding jobs in the CF, bar none, so you better like "working out " every day of your career, to stay in super fit condition. In addition it takes "smarts " and higher math ability to figure out how to mix breathing gases and time at depth numbers, and mechanical skills like under water welding, and explosive handling. No one goes directly into that trade . You have to be come trained in a basic ship board trade first, then qualify to attend "dive school " and become a certified diver, then go to advanced dive school to learn about the specialized aspects of the job. Lizzie H	Well since no one else is answering this for you I'll give it a shot. A friend of mine is a Navy Diver for the US Navy and his job seems super interesting to me. He is one of the reasons I am joining the Navy. One of the jobs he did was to dive around a ship they were commissioning (because the president was going to be on the ship) to make sure there were no bombs in the water. He also does salvage missions if a plane crashes into the water or if a ship sinks.
