Conditions existing for Afghani women exist in FLDS compounds Why are our troops fighting there and not here?

One of the answers to a q. I had on Afghanistan cited the appalling conditions for women as a reason why US troops are there. "1. women must walk two paces behind a male. 2. women are told what they can expose (by their husband). whether to wear the full burqua or not. 3. they must not drive. 4. they cannot go out in public without a male relative 5. it is hard for some women to get an education and health care 6. most women must sit in the back of a vehical (sic)when going out and about" If you substitute"prairie dress" for "Burqa" it is virtually the same thing in many FLDS compounds. I know, I lived it, and left too. So why not right injustice at home before dying for the same on foreign soil? I am putting this to vote; I am not far enough away from it to be a nonpartisan judge; I still have the scars from being bound and whipped - in a land where that is not supposed to happen; and further it was not just as easy as walking away, I left amidst taunts, jeers, and projectiles thrown at me by men who were protected by their citzenship rights. Yes, not all want to leave but those that do; the authorities don't help because of landowners'rights. So vote

venus_smrf	I hadn't thought it was quite that bad, but I'll have to take your word for it. Still, you can't really compare the two groups like that. You mentioned that you left that lifestyle, and there's a major difference right there--FLDS women can leave. Afghani women can't. It may be difficult for an FLDS woman to leave that life, but she's not going to be beaten to death or tortured if she tries to live another way. Some even choose that life. Afghani women are in far more danger. Their men are often encouraged by the government and the law to kill women who disobey. At least in America, there's some sense of accountability, however difficult it may be to get real evidence of abuse. Besides, FLDS men aren't exactly blowing up buildings or threatening the world with nuclear weapons. Of course it's not the same. I understand your point, and while I completely disagree with the FLDS lifestyle and the way they behave, they're not international terrorists. You can't expect our government to deal with them the same way we'd deal with insurgents who spend their days killing people. FLDS women aren't being ritually maimed or executed. They're sometimes oppressed and abused, but not all of them are, and not on the same level.

Because my dear from what I saw of the documentary the women have now formed a committee to further help explain why they live th eway they live and i is all run by polygamist women. They seem to be happy and I know of one Mom who tried to get her teenager to leave, after a few days this teenager who spoke to oprah returned to her prairie dress and community. witnessofJesus	i say "bite your toungue" we already have 345 k illegal troops from other nations on U.s. soil. thanks to illegal treaties with U.N. do you really want military action against americans? where we have freedom of religion, good or evil? TruthSeeker818	NO, we are not fighting for womens sovereignty, although that is an outcome of the war. We are fighting a terrorist organization who train there. So who ever cited that as a reason is wrong. maybe you should have looked into the causes of the war before posting this question, rather than go by what someone said on the internet who doesnt know what they are talking about. I bet they believe we had the civil war to free the slaves, which was not the cause of the war but rather an effect that came about after the war started.
