I do believe our government did supplied them, and i mean the Afghanees along with Bin Laden with weapons to fight the Russians. Our government also trained them to fight as well. I was deployed to Bagram Afghanistan, where the Russian base used to be, and it is has alot of remaining history( ie. destroyed aircraft, tanks, etc.) But one thing you may not of known is that alot of countries do this type of ****. For instance did you know that in Vietnam the Chinese helped the North Vietnamese fight against us. I never knew this until i found some of my dads old war stuff and found Chinese stuff?? he said that he "acquired" it from dead solders. So much for them being our allies huh.

Bin Laden was a product of a monumental miscalculation by western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan.

Al-Qaida, literally the database, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians.

After Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, bin Laden offered to help defend Saudi Arabia (with 12,000 armed men) but was rebuffed by the Saudi government.

Bin Laden publicly denounced his government's dependence on the U.S. military and demanded an end to the presence of foreign military bases in the country. The 1990/91 deployment of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia in connection with the Gulf War shocked and revolted bin Laden and other Islamist militants.

After the Gulf War, the establishment of permanent bases for non-Muslim U.S. forces in Saudi Arabia continued to undermine the Saudi rulers' legitimacy and inflamed anti-government Islamist militants, including bin Laden. Bin Laden's criticisms of the Saudi monarchy led the government to expel him to Sudan in 1991.

Terrorism experts say Bin Laden has been using his millions to fund attacks against the US.
The US State Department calls him "one of the most significant sponsors of Islamic extremist activities in the world today".

No, they didn't.

I don't know if the CIA specifically trained Bin Laden, but we did support the Mu ja Hadeen with weapons in the early eighties. The reason was so they would defeat the Russians. To anwer why you have to understand just how frightened people were of the Soviet Union and agressor tactics around the world.

JustAHelpfulGuy
Not sure if they did or not, but I could see them doing it to support the Afghan fighters when the Soviet Union was battling the Afghan.

Typical B.S. of "My enemy's enemy is my friend".....

! CIA Trained Masood and Dostun forces in Afghanistan
Bin Laden recieved aid from both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The CIA Knew he was Hostile and avoided him.
The CIA did not operate in the South around Khandahar
where Bin Laden operated. The CIA operated around Jalabad in the East and in the Panjir Valley in the north,
but you did not follow the war like I did so you are a clueless individual. Hemectyar recieved aid from IRAN.
