Fraudulent Enlistment what are the chances of getting caught?

I've been in the military for 2 years and did not confess a juvenille offense (misdemeanor theft) at MEPS, my recruiter said not to say anything. Now i'm attempting to go for a commission program and it's asking me about all these waivers. Do I apply for a waiver for an offense that happend 5 years ago? -I am still "pending" for a secrutiy clearance If I confess and request a waiver will I be discharged for fraud. enlistment? US Air Force

Chances are if it didn't come up on the initial FBI background check at MEPS. Y'know the one where they fingerprint you... you're in the clear. If you were under the age of 18, the offense will not show up in databases. If you're going for a TOP SECRET expect for it to come back on you. Just say, that at the time you must have forgotten about that charge and own up to it. I expect the worst that could happen is your clearance being pulled and possibly an Article 15. But from here on out, try to be honest. Lying on government documents isn't something to sneeze at.

I personally would not say anything and go about as it never happened. Some states will not release any data on juvenile offenses and if they knew that you had one it probably would have come up by now. I highly doubt they will kick you out if they find out you had a fraudulent enlistment for that, more likely you will stay in and be worse off.

Your security clearance check is most likely going to find the offense.

You should declare it -- you don't want them to find out about it on their own. If there's problems, tell them what your recruiter said. Seriously, if you go career, you don't want this hanging over you for your entire life. Get this over and done with now.
