How do rich people get out of the military duty or draft?

RunningOnMT	During Vietnam I knew wealthy and educated men who volunteered and they weren't all officers either. On the other hand the majority of those I went to school with who were by no means wealthy played every game in the book to evade the draft from whole families chipping in to send them to school to eating and drinking enough to stay overweight to claiming to be gay to moving to Canada. Use some logic. Often times the wealthy have been able to get what they have by having above average intelligence. Intelligence is largely genetic. The more intelligent you are generally the higher your aspirations are academically. So naturally some of the wealthier take advantage of educational opportunities available to them. It is a mistake to think that this choice is always indicative of patriotism. The bottom line is I think that among both the rich and the poor you find patriots, shirkers and cowards.

Wolfpacker	You waste your time trying to find how to stay out of military like wealthy. Do not join, there is no draft. There are wealthy people who join. My son joined & we are over the $100,000 a year income area. We are patriotic, money does not change that.

ronfschmidt	This is very misleading. Rich are in the military. They are your third in command and up. Pilots in most cases are from rich families. Would the military risk letting a smuck like me handle a billion dollar weapon? If the sons and daughters of the military elite forgo their opportunity then they might let us poor people take command!

m15	There is no draft right now. Rich people can serve or not serve just like any other American.

Mephistopheles	They have a word with there friendly congressman or schedule education at times which coincide with the draft so they can get exemptions. They put themselves in charge of businesses which cannot run without their presence. There are countless ways the resourceful 'rich' person can avoid the draft.

mixemup	Some rich people choose to fight for their country, and the others that get drafted go, they have no choice. This is one instance that money can not always get you what you want.

Rich people are educated in a different way than common people. Common people are educated by Fox News and stupid ideas. They believe that we can export democracy with bombs and they are ready to die,unknowing that every war depends on politics and economic interests. Think about Iraqi war. The excuses are: weapons of mass destruction terrorism the need to export democracy. Only a moron can believe this reasons. The reason are Oil,Gas and pipeline and Geopolitcs in the new great game to control central Asia. Next step is Iran. Rich people don't like to use an M4 carbine...they like to count their money
